October 2011

• Allegra Wilde hired me to write copy for her exciting new project, Eyeist (eyeist.com). It’s an online portfolio-review service that’s launching in January 2012. Her partners in Eyeist are Jesse Diamond, Micah Diamond, and Doug Dawirs.
• Over the past year, I’ve worked on various photo-related copywriting projects for the design and branding agency Carbone Smolan. This month, they hired me to write copy for a brochure for a major camera manufacturer.
• The fall 2011 issue of Emerging Photographer is published. It’s our documentary issue and includes a feature on National Geographic photographer Michael Yamashita; a think piece by Miriam S. Grotte, who once worked as an assistant to Susan Meiselas; insights from Patrick Witty, international picture editor at TIME; and a profile of LaToya Ruby Frazier, among other stories. I’ll post the link as soon as PDN uploads the magazine to issuu.com.

• I worked with LIFE.com on a pair of slideshows centering on photo appreciation, titled “What Makes Photos Great?” For the slideshow “Looking for Heroes,” I enlisted David Schonauer, former editor in chief of American Photo. His writing about portrayals of heroes of all stripes is intelligent and illuminating. Hunt to comment on selections from his beguiling new book, The Unseen Eye: Photographs From the Unconscious. Link: http://www.life.com/gallery/66061/closed-encounters-the-unseen-eye#index/0
